Welcome to “Dallas Valley Discoveries”. I have recently acquired the most amazing vintage watch collection at auction. This watch is from that collection, as are many other brands such as Girard Perregaux, Hamilton, Mido, Elgin, Benrus, Longines, and even Le Coultre. The collection also includes some lesser-known brands from the WW2 era and early midcentury, such as Rima, Selca, and Helvetia, as well as some great 1970s pieces and high-end modern watches. I will be listing as quickly as I can, so please check frequently as these watches are first come first serve. Now, for the watch in this listing, continue reading below. This listing is for a lovely, vintage, midcentury, likely 1950s, gold filled/thickly plated REUSSER ADMIRATION watch. This watch has a classic look. It’s definitely midcentury vintage, and I believe it to be a 1950s time piece based on its style and size. The style of the case size for men’s round watches in the 1940s was about 28 mm, and watches gravitated to bigger sizes in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. This watch has a case size of 30 mm, which is a common size during the 1950s, and slightly larger than the 1940s. This brand, ADMIRATION, and upon research, the full company name seems to be REUSSER ADMIRATION. I think this brand is no longer around. I’m not sure how long it was in existence, as I have found other watches from this brand, but they all look midcentury in style, so maybe this brand was around in the 1950s & 60s? I don’t know if this brand was owned or bought by a better-known company and absorbed, discontinued or what. There do seem to be later watch models from the 1970s/80s that are labeled only Reusser. Anyone with information on this? I’d very much appreciate learning anything someone cares to share so that I may improve my listing. The ADMIRATION brand does seem to have been a higher end brand that produced luxury dress watches, and the watch in this listing is just that. As stated, this watch has a 30 mm case. The back of the case is a screw back. The watch case is marked Plaque G 20 (something) F. The something looks like either an O or a D. The word plaque means plating and the number 20 is the depth of the plating. I believe this is the same thing as gold filled or rolled gold plating based on the thickness of the gold outer shell. There is wear to the shell along the edges or the lugs and back edges of the case, and you can see the thickness of the shell. I’ve worked with gold filled vintage watches and jewelry for years and this has the same look, with visible thickness to the gold outer shell. The watch was definitely well loved, as there are areas where the gold shell has worn through to base metal, primarily along the edges of the outer underside of the case and the edges of the lugs. The gold shell is still thick and solid along the bezel, front, and upper sides of the case. The case surface does show little nicks and abrasions that come with wear and age. The watch crystal is fairly scuffed and rather cloudy to look through. If one intends to wear the watch, this is something he or she will want to replace. The watch dial is beige in color with gold numerals and gold hands. It looks to be in very nice condition. It’s a little harder to tell due to the cloudiness of the crystal, but I used a magnification loop to inspect the dial and it looks quite pretty. There are gold designs, that sort of resemble the shape of Christmas trees, used as numeral markers at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. I’ll try and get a good photo of this as it’s one of the watch’s most unique and lovely details. The watch doesn’t have a band, so included in this listing is a NOS (new-old-stock) gold filled band. It’s a one-piece expandable band. If you don’t like the band, I do have others and can try and find one you prefer, and if you don’t want the band, then it can be negotiated out of the price of the listing. The lug measurement is 16 mm. I don’t know how to attach bands, so the new owner will be responsible for this. The watch is also missing the little bars that fit between lugs, and these I don’t have, so the new owner will need to replace these in order to attach the band. I am unable to open the case on this watch to expose the movement, and I’ve had horrible experiences with trying to replace case backs of vintage working watches, so I prefer to not try, especially on working vintage watches! Therefore, I will not have a photo of the movement for this listing. However, the watch is working. Please read the paragraph below this one regarding its working condition. The watch is running at the time of listing; however, I have not tested it’s time keeping accuracy. I can make no guarantees about its future working condition as I know nothing of its previous history or when it was last serviced. As a vintage item, the new owner should anticipate the cost of having the watch serviced to guarantee its future working condition, as this is 70+ year old timepiece. You are buying the watch AS IS. I’ve taken video of the watch running that I am happy to share with interested buyers. After purchase, before shipping, I will check the watch again and take a second video of it running as proof of its working condition at the time of purchase. If I discover the watch has stopped working, I will contact the buyer so he or she may reconsider the purchase and either renegotiate a price or cancel the sell all together. If the watch is running, as it should be, I’ll video the watch and let the buyer know the watch has shipped. Once the watch leaves my possession at the post office, the sell is final. This watch will make a great addition to one’s vintage watch collection. Pictures are to be considered as part of the description.
