Welcome! Original painting: “PORTRAIT OF A MONSIGNOR FRANTISEK KORAN – DEAN OF THE CHAPTER” Marked on the backside with paper tag “KAPIT. DEKAN FRANT. KORAN – OLEJ AK.MAL. MATHAUSERA” or “DEAN OF THE CHAPTER FRANT. KORAN – OIL OF ACADEMIC PAINTER MATHAUSER” Original paper tag indicates that this work is most likely work of famous czech painter Josef Mathauser (1846-1917). He is well-known mainly as a painter of portraits and works with religious themes. Among his most famous works are “Slave Market” and “Libusin Soud”. He worked on the decoration of the Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Marianske Lazne. At the end of the 19th century, he participated in the repainting of religious scenes on Svata Hora near Pribram. In 1900, he restored church paintings in Nove Benatky, among them the painting of Mary Magdalene by Karel Skreta. This portrait looks to be from the end of 19th century or begging of 20th century. Buyer will receive an original remembrance card related to death of Monsignor Frantisek Koran on June 20th 1911. This remembrance card was discovered behind this portrait and measures approx. 10,5x7cm Description: oil on canvas, framed, marked with paper tag on the backside Condition report: painting and frame are overall in good condition, both show some expected damages like few missing ornaments, possible stains or crackling – please see photos for details, painting holds overall fine in the frame but it would need some adjustment.
