JDSU / Lumentum FCD488 488nm 20mW Fiber Coupled Collimated Solid State Laser Lightly used 488nm solid state laser system made by JDSU / Lumentum. These units are coupled to a 1m single-mode, polarization-maintaining (SM/PM) fiber with a collimator at the end that produces the same quality beam as the free space version. We’ve tested these  and find that they perform like new. They produce the rated 20mW output at a diode current of <400mA, well below the 850mA maximum.  The systems shows less than 50 hours run time so are essentially unused. These produce a high quality, stable and low noise beam. We have several of these so the serial number may not match the pictures. Note that this laser does not auto-start.  To turn on the laser, you will need to connect a computer to the serial port and issue the LASER_ON (or LON) command. A package contains both the optical elements of the laser and the control electronics, allowing full control and diagnostics of the laser system through an analog interface and RS232 interface. Powered by an external 5 V DC power supply, the laser is cost-efficient, reliable, and compact, with excellent electrical and thermal efficiency. It has a low heat load, so the laser operates without a heat sink. The laser delivers 20 mW in a very stable and low-noise beam from a compact package, especially designed for original equipment manufacturing (OEM) and system integration. In the laser head, blue light is created by a 980 nm laser diode and a frequency-doubling crystal. The crystal is temperature-stabilized by a controller driving a thermoelectric cooler for optimal laser power and noise. The controller also provides current to the 980 nm diode, as well as monitoring and controlling the thermoelectric cooler which is integrated into its package. The blue power is controlled by adjusting the diode current with closed-loop feedback from an external photodiode. The laser is operated in constant power mode and can be controlled and monitored via either an RS232 interface or a Digital/Analog interface."
