NO RESERVE. 1/1250 WWII German Z5 Paul Jacobi, Type 1934A-class or Z5-class / Z5 Paul Jacobi-class Destroyer as she apparently appeared for the first years after being completed, if not through her entire career with the Kriegsmarine. Commissioned in 1938, she was captured by the British in May 1945. She ultimately was allotted to the French as a war prize in 1946 and renamed Louis Desaix but was paid off in 1948 after only a breif time as a unit of the French Navy. (Note that not all navies have use prefixes with their ship names, such “USS” for United States Navy ships and “HMS” for British Royal Navy ships. Prominent among navies during WWII which did not use such prefixes were both Nazi Germany’s Kreigsmarine and the Japanese Imperial Navy. In the case of the former, some postwar authors have subsequently adopted “DKM” – for “Deutsche Kriegsmarine” – in their accounts of the naval aspects of the war. Paul Jacobi was completing a refit at the start of WWII and except for most of 1941 and most of 1943 while undergoing repairs, her active years of the war were spent in areas as diverse as the North Sea, the Artic Ocean, the Bay of Biscay, the English Channel and the Baltic. As indicated above, after being captured by the British in May 1945, she finished her career as the French destroyer Louis Desaix until being paid off in 1948. She was then used as a source of spare parts for other ex-German ships in the French Navy until she was condemned and sold for scrap in 1954.
