AltecModel 7 Three-way Crossover, with spare caps The Altec Model 7 three-way crossover front panel is in excellent condition. The Masonite back plate, which mounts the components, is only fair. The tweeter and midrange pots are in good condition and were opened, cleaned, checked and treated with Caig’s DeOxit D5. The front panel is complete with its original mounting screws. These screws show a bit of rust. The three sets of leads for tweeter, midrange and woofer, are marked with polarities and color codes. The capacitors were isolated and tested with a Sencore LC75 LC meter. The 21 uF capacitor is open, and is probably the reason the crossover was abandoned. I purchased a set of high-quality metalized polypropylene film capacitors to replace all three originals, but upon examining the backboard, it appears the larger capacitors, mounted where the originals are mounted, would make re-installing the backboard in its original position in a speaker very difficult. I decided to offer the crossover, as is, and include the new capacitors, unmounted. The buyer can make the replacements fit the physical space available as needed. The other components, coils and resistors, were tested and are fine. From the seller of these capacitors: “These are all brand new caps, made in 2022 and 2023 by Supertech in Taiwan. They are MPT (metalized polypropylene film) capacitors, which are much higher quality than the everyday MET yellow film capacitors. These are self-healing capacitors,rated from -40°C to 105°C. They are rated at 10% but generally test within 5-6%accuracy. These are all matching, with the yellow body and dark green ends, so they will look nice and uniform for you. I had these custom-made for me, and they are fabulous! I ordered a huge quantity of capacitors in order to offer them at the lowest prices, and had some special values custom-made as well.” The original capacitors are shown in the photos still in their original positions, and the replacements are shown separately. The original 56uF cap is to be replaced with a 47uF in parallel with a 10uF. The original 21uF cap is to be replaced with a 22uF cap. The original 4uF cap is to be replaced with a 4uF cap.
